Morrisons Equal Pay Claim

Morrisons store workers may be entitled to thousands of pounds in compensation

Morrisons has been accused of not paying all its staff a fair and equal wage. The mostly female shop floor staff claim they are being discriminated against. We contend that in doing jobs of equal value, workers should be paid equally. Yet, we believe that Morrisons pays its distribution centre staff as much as £3 an hour more than its store staff.

In September 2021, an Employment Tribunal ruled that Morrisons store workers could compare their roles to those working in the supermarket’s distribution centres for the purposes of determining whether they are paid equally. This was an important first step on the road to recovering compensation.

Morrisons could be made to pay eligible store workers thousands of pounds each.

KP Law is helping current and former Morrisons store workers to claim compensation in an equal pay group action.

If you are currently working at a Morrisons store – or if you have previously worked at a store in England or Wales in the last six years – you may qualify to join our claim. Both male and female employees can join.

We act on a no-win-no-fee basis.

KP Law is helping Morrisons store workers to claim the compensation they deserve. But why should you sign up with us?

We will work for you on a no-win, no-fee basis. There are no upfront fees or hidden costs.

Because claimants are more powerful when they join together, our group action case may increase your chances of success.

Signing up is straightforward and we make claiming compensation hassle-free.

We are a specialist group action law firm with considerable expertise standing up to big corporates.

Our lawyers have settled claims worth many millions of pounds.

You could be owed thousands of pounds in compensation

Morrisons could be paying distribution centre employees as much as £3.00 an hour more than store staff.

A successful claim could equal up to six years’ backpay from the date we start your claim, and backpay from the date we begin until the claim is resolved.

Morrisons must prove that there is a reason other than sex discrimination why store and distribution workers are not paid the same.

We believe that the difference in pay between store and distribution centre workers is due to gender. Morrisons either views the work done by store workers (typically women) as lesser in value or believes it can get away with paying female staff less. Either way, this is unlawful.

All store workers can join our equal pay claim.

Anyone who has worked at a Morrisons store in England or Wales (in an hourly paid job) in the last six years may be able to claim with KP Law. While female store workers will lead our equal pay case, their colleagues may also be eligible for compensation if we are successful.

It is illegal for Morrisons to fire you for making a claim.

When you claim against an employer, the law automatically protects you from any act of retaliation. Therefore, if Morrisons attempted to fire you or mistreat you for bringing a claim, that would be victimisation/discrimination, and they would be breaking the law in doing so.

To receive compensation, you must claim. So don't miss out!

We are stronger together

When people join a group action case, this strengthens their overall position and makes big organisations like Morrisons take the matter more seriously. To make sure those who need it have access to justice, we are running our Morrisons equal pay group action claim on a no-win, no-fee basis.

Your questions answered

See our answers to the FAQs we get asked about claiming against Morrisons.

Some employees of Morrisons have accused the supermarket giant of not paying them a fair and equal wage. Morrisons is allegedly paying its distribution centre employees as much as £3.00 an hour more than its store staff. However, these employees do jobs of equal value, and Morrisons should pay them equally. We are helping current and former Morrisons store workers to claim compensation for the pay they have not received.

You might qualify to join our group claim if:

    • You currently work in a Morrisons store or have done in the last six years.
    • You are paid an hourly rate.
    • You have worked/are working in a Morrisons store in England or Wales.

We will work for you under a no-win, no-fee agreement. This means:

    • You won’t pay us a penny unless you win.
    • You won’t have to pay anything upfront.
    • Your payment will be deducted from your compensation if we win your case.

If you are successful, our fee is up to 45% of any compensation we recover for you.

Every case is different, but we believe that Morrisons could owe eligible store workers thousands of pounds in compensation each. Each claim is calculated individually on a number of factors, for example, how long you have worked for Morrisons, amongst others.

No. When you claim against an employer, the law automatically protects you from any act of retaliation. Morrisons cannot treat you any differently for joining the claim.

Not at all. The process to join our action is straightforward and can be completed quickly from your phone or computer.

We cannot say how long the case will take, although we anticipate that it could take several years. It will be hard-fought by Morrisons, and the case will require several Court and Employment Tribunal hearings. We will provide regular updates on the claim’s progress once you formally join the KP Law equal pay claim.

When we claim on your behalf, we will seek compensation for any unpaid amounts right up until the date we settle or win your case.

If the Court finds that Morrisons is not paying its store workers properly, it might insist that all workers receive equal pay in the future. But that is unlikely to cover backpay.

A successful claim could equal up to six years’ backpay from the date we start your claim and backpay from the date we begin until the claim is resolved. So, if you currently work at Morrisons or have done in the past six years, it is worth joining the KP Law action. If you don’t join the group claim, you might not receive any financial compensation.

Absolutely. Anyone who has worked at an Morrisons store in England or Wales in the last six years in an hourly paid job may be eligible to claim.

Yes, you can continue to work for Morrisons if you join our claim. Morrisons cannot fire you for pursuing a claim or treat you any differently.

Yes. If you are made redundant, you can still make an equal pay claim. We recommend that you join the claim as soon as possible to ensure you receive as much compensation as you are owed.

If you are made redundant and your employer asks you to sign documents about your redundancy or your redundancy pay, do not sign them until you have sought legal advice. Also, you must tell your legal adviser that you have issued or intend to issue an equal pay claim.

Once you have signed up to join our claim, there is nothing more you need to do. We will let you know if you are eligible and, if so, invite you to formally join our action. We will then progress the claim on your behalf.

Please keep copies of any documentation regarding your work at a Morrisons store. Please also keep us informed if any of your contact information changes so we can stay in touch with you. You should also lookout for any emails from us, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.

You cannot join our equal pay claim if you have signed up to a lawsuit with another firm.

We are a specialist group and multi-claimant litigation law firm with considerable expertise helping large numbers of people come together to take on big corporates. With all the knowledge and resources needed to win, our lawyers have settled claims worth many millions of pounds.
